Due to our great fund-raising effort UNICO MV Scholarship Committee received additional funds this year and awarded monies to the following deserving students:
Founded in 1990, the Merrimack Valley Chapter of UNICO National is proud to enter its 35th year as the distinguished Italian-American service organization within the Merrimack Valley, MA.
Shortly after UNICO’s inception, Mr. Vincent Caristo and select charter members embarked on the task of creating a scholarship committee. The intent was then, and still remains, to provide financial assistance to distinguished, higher education-bound Italian-Americans within the Merrimack Valley and to honor the success and achievement that our Italian ancestors worked so hard to foster when they immigrated to this country. In order to generate the necessary scholarship funds, the founding committee members dedicated long hours in planning and coordinating fundraising events.
These distributions began with gifts of $1,000.00 for 5 recipients to where we have been in the past few years; giving at least $2,500.00 awards to 5 deserving recipients.
UNICO Merrimack Valley is proud to declare that over 212 scholarship awards have been provided to deserving Merrimack Valley college-bound students . Additionally, our chapter has recently announced that it has raised and distributed over $1,100,000 for scholarships and local charities since inception.
As this year’s chairman, I am privileged to receive the torch from those who served so capably before me in order to celebrate some of the incredible Italian-American young men and women in our area.
